Many thanks - and date of next rehearsal. HAPPY CHRISTMAS! 🎄

Dear Friends,

Many thanks to those who were able to come and sing outside Ann and Mike’s house last night. It was a very enjoyable and special occasion and good to have the opportunity to sing our Christmas repertoire. Thanks to Mike and Ann for having us there and for the hot, all butter mince pies. Delicious!

The Unitarian Church opens its doors for community activities again on Monday 10 January and our next rehearsal is scheduled for Thursday 13 January. Following on from our ‘Sing & Promalong’ at Princes Park last October, there had been some interest from the Friends of Princes Park, in taking us up on the offer of a tree Wassailing event: traditionally this is enacted on Twelfth Night - the 6 January - which, this year, falls on a Thursday. I haven’t heard anything more regarding this so I don’t think (for a variety of reasons!) it will happen but I’ll keep you updated. It would be fun to ‘Wassail the Silver Apple!’

together outside, savouring some mulled cider and festive nibbles - but I think it may well have to wait until safer times.

I realise that having both Christmas concerts cancelled, and at the last minute, wasn’t what we would have wished - particularly given how well we were sounding together - but at least the process gave us something to work towards after those months apart. And in hindsight, the voyage is often just as pleasurable, if not more so, than the arrival!

Sending you very best wishes for a very happy Christmas and for 2022. I hope you enjoy a peaceful, healthy and relaxing time.

Those of you who attended the rehearsal, will remember that I spoke of the plan to put on yet another virtual Arts Café, a Christmas one.

Originally it was scheduled to be live-streamed on YouTube (private audience only) on Saturday 11 December. However, for a number of reasons, Lucas and I think it best if we put it back a week, to the following Saturday, 18 December. I know this is the last Saturday before Christmas, and it well be that you have other things planned, however, the YouTube link will be available on, and after, the 18th December, ready for whenever it’s best for you to enjoy over a glass of mulled wine, or other festive victuals!

It will give those thinking of submitting an item - or two - more time to prepare and, in addition, will give us time to include some whole choir recordings of pieces we’re currently rehearsing. Brigid talked to me about the possibility of doing this and I think it’s a great idea! We’ll pick a rehearsal date and Lucas has said he is willing to make the recordings. As far as dress code is concerned, I think a ‘festive, outside carol singer’s costume’ would suffice but you may well have other ideas which we can discuss together next week.

It would be helpful for me to know, as soon as possible - possibly next Thursday?!! - if you have an item in mind. This way we can ensure we don’t have any duplication of songs, poems etc., - which is very easy to do with a Christmas programme! If you require piano accompaniment please advise me of this too so that I can liaise with John.

Items don’t have to be seasonal - though it would be good if they were.

Please could I ask that you send all recordings* to me no later than Saturday 11 December.

It would be great if everyone could offer something but it isn’t obligatory! If you have any thoughts or queries please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Very best wishes,

* these can be in the form of videos or audio files though, for obvious reasons, videos are far more interesting to watch!!!

Important Info - Choir Participation Disclaimer

Dear Friends,
Further to my email relating to our long-awaited return, I also wish to draw your attention to the Choir Participation Disclaimer, drawn up by Chris and sent out to all members last May; you don’t need to look back through your emails as I’ve included it here - please see below.
I hope that, like me, you are looking forward to being able to meet and sing together - at last!  I’m sure too, that you are well aware, and supportive, of the safety measures and steps that need to be put into place in order to safeguard our members and our families.
As safety is our first consideration I am asking you to print and sign the ‘Choir Participation Disclaimer’ (see below) and bring this along to the rehearsal tomorrow.  If you’re unable to make tomorrow’s rehearsal - and I have had a few apologies from some on holiday - please bring the signed sheet along with you on your return.
Please would you also bring a mask and sanitiser and, in addition, take a Lateral Flow Test before attending rehearsals: I’m sure that many of you have to do this for work purposes anyway.
I’m very much looking forward to seeing you.
Very best wishes,
Lesley Bentley

Liverpool Voice Rehearsal, 8th of July - At last - a real rehearsal!

Dear Friends,

Good news!  I have been in touch with Viki from the Unitarian Church and all is fine for us to rehearse this Thursday.  This means that, for those of you who are free and willing, we can, at last, meet and sing together. Alleluia!! (Cue for a song I think!)
The rehearsal will run from 6.45 pm and, depending on the wishes of those present, will finish sometime between 8.30 and 9.00 pm; I noted last night that it was still light at gone 9.15 pm.
I will be sending out another email later with details of what we’ll be singing, meanwhile you may want to consider whether you need to bring something to sit on, though you may be prepared to stand for the duration.  Also, please bring your own refreshments.
We have been given the option of using the toilets and it may well be worth bringing a mask and, perhaps, some sanitiser just in case you do wish to make use of the facilities.
More details to follow.
I’m very much looking forward to seeing you again.
More later but for now……
Very best wishes,

Resuming Rehearsals - A possible way forward

Dear Friends,
We hope this email finds you well.
As we move closer to the 17 May and 21 June deadlines, and the relaxation of the current rulings as we have known them, this email aims to outline pertinent issues to enable us to move forward and, at long last, to meet and sing together.
As you are no doubt aware there is still a lot of speculation generally amongst singers about Covid and the risks of singing together. This being the case, many - for good reason - still have concerns about meeting, and, when asked for their opinions about meeting indoors for rehearsals from 17 May, most of those taking part in the Liverpool Voice Zoom rehearsal were of the opinion that they wouldn’t be comfortable with this.  However, many felt more positive about resuming rehearsals after 21 June when it was thought that the vast majority of members would have received their second vaccination.
We have been in contact with Phil Waldron, Minister for the Unitarian Church; it is his intention to open the church once again for community activities as from Monday 17 May.
The use of a space was discussed and he has confirmed that we will be able to use the Church as our regular rehearsal venue.  This will allow us plenty of room to operate in a safe and practical way - and, when the winter nights inevitably bring colder temperatures he has promised that it will be heated, which all sounds very promising and inviting.
Before we meet up it will be necessary to put protective measures and procedures in place to ensure that we can all operate in a safe and secure way; information relating to this will be sent out in good time prior to our proposed first rehearsal on Thursday 24 June.
Please know that we are keen to receive your feedback and very much welcome additional thoughts - pros and cons - and feelings you may have on this matter.
Very best wishes,
Jan and Lesley

Silent Night For The Big Help Project

It's been a strange year but the bond of music still connects us at Liverpool Voice.
Here is a seasonal gift to all our friends and supporters.

We were due to be featured in a concert for The Big Help Project this December but, for obvious reasons, that has not been possible. We are taking the opportunity to remember those less fortunate than ourselves while sharing one of our favourite carols with you all. If it is possible for you to make a small gift to The Big Help Project the details are in the video and below. They would appreciate it very much.

Wishing you all a safe and blessed Christmas and we hope to see you all again in the New Year.

A message from our Treasurer to those who bought tickets for the Arts Café on 27 March.

"The tickets you hold are valid for when the event is rescheduled. Alternatively, you may surrender your tickets for a cash refund. If you contact Mike, our treasurer with your name and phone number, he will ring you for your bank details and make a refund payment. Again, there is no need to do this, any tickets not returned are valid for the event when it is rescheduled."

If you have any questions or concerns about these issues please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Very best wishes,

Jan (Chair) and Lesley
